The Cell-Base art resin starter kit contains everything you need to create a blue seascape resin art masterpiece.
It’s so easy to create a beautiful piece of resin artwork using Eli-Chem MasterCast, Cell-Base Instant Cell Creator and pigments. If you have never tried resin art before then this is a great way to start. Simply follow the step by step instructions on our info graphic and get creative.
For the starter kit we use MasterCast 1-2-1 Clear Artwork Resin as the base, it is a two component polymer material that produces an optically clear, high gloss finish on many surfaces e.g canvas, wood, mdf, glass, perspex, concrete and metal. It is ambient temperature curing, solvent free, high build and UV stable. MasterCast is an optically transparent coating casting resin that can be applied by pouring, brush or roller.

|Mix ratio|| by volume: 100 parts resin to 100 parts hardener
by weight: 100 parts resin to 90 parts hardener
|Surfaces||canvas, wood, MDF & glass|
|Curing time||touch dry in 5/6 hours at 23°C, full chemical cure in 7 days|
|Coverage||1 litre of the mixed product will cover 2m²@ 0.5 mm thick (1kg = 1 litre)|
|Pot Life||15-20 minutes at 23°C (250g mixed mass)|
|Shelf life||one year in sealed containers|
The mixing ratio must be accurately followed to achieve perfect results. It is not possible to change the ratio which would result in the resin not drying properly and lower mechanical properties.
The mixed components should be thoroughly stirred for 3-4 minutes to ensure an even consistency. Epoxy systems tend to heat up in a pot than as a thin film, only mix the amount needed for use within the pot life of the product.
Add a small amount of the Cell-Base pigment to one of the smaller cups and then add half of the mixed resin (10% Cell-Base to resin ratio) and mix thoroughly. Pour the remaining mixed MasterCast resin into each of the 3 remaining small cups. Add the 2 resi-TINT MAX and resi-METAL tints to the resin in the 3 small cups, they are very concentrated so you only need a little. the resi-TINT+ Metallic Powder can be added to one of these colours or sprinkled lightly over your artwork whilst it is still wet.
Once the resin and pigment are thoroughly mixed, spread the Cell-Base mixture onto your board as a base layer, completely covering the board. Pass a heat gun gently over the Cell-Base layer before applying the pigmented resin. Immediately pour the cups of tinted resin onto your Cell-Base layer one at a time and then swipe or drag the top colours over the base layer and watch the cells forming.
Health & Safety
Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, all epoxy resins are chemicals and should be managed and handled with proactive safety hygiene and responsible care.
- Always wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream)
- Wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin
- It is advisable to work in a well ventilated room
- We advise the use of safety goggles
- Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin wash with plenty of soap & water)
- DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working
- In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately
Adding inks/paints/mica powder/glitter to epoxy resin will change its properties and may reduce its non-toxicity. If you use alcohol inks DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles, as alcohol is flammable.
