1kg resin & 500g hardener

Hægt að nota eins og Mastercast en þetta er þynnra og lengri vinnslutími / pot life

ef notaðir eru litir þá er hætta á að þeir renni of mikið saman – betra að nota Mastercast

hentar vel til að þekja borðplötur – þolir hita upp að 80  C

UltraCast xt is an optically clear epoxy coating/casting resin, it is solvent free with excellent UV resistance and surface heat resistance up to 90°C

UltraCast xt resin produces a high gloss, optically clear, attractive finish. It’s self-levelling, can be turned, cut, sanded and polished making it ideal for the following applications:

  • Sealing and coating of artwork/paintings made with acrylic paint, oil paint & watercolour paints
  • Sculptures and mould castings (up to 1000cc in volume)  one milliliter (1 ml) is equal to one cubic centimeter (1 cc).
  • Tabletops, bar counters and kitchen worktops
  • Penny floor and pigmented epoxy floor applications

Please be aware that if tints are used with UltraCastxt there is a chance colours could bleed into one another if poured next to each other, as the formula has a longer working time and is thinner than MasterCast art resin. Please be advised although our resins are U.V stabilised this does not mean they are U.V proof. Ultimately all our clear epoxy resins will show signs of U.V degradation over time. We work constantly to improve the U.V protection however resins are plastics and over time the sun will always win that battle.

This resin system needs 14-21 days to reach maximum cured properties and temperature resistance. The addition of pigments (inks, powders and pastes) as well as other resin additives (resi-BLAST, silicone, lubricants, alcohol or solvents) will lower its temperature resistance, this is because pigment substances themselves have a very low temperature threshold.

The addition of alcohol inks in particular can cause problematic surface finish due to its effect of lowering the viscosity (diluting the resin and impacting its density). It can result in cloudiness, dimples and other surface blemishes. The alcohol content in these inks will nullify the resin’s non-flammable properties. When alcohol inks or any other solvent is added, special care should be taken when heating the surface with an open flame blowtorch or butane gun.

The more pigments & additives which are added or mixed into UltraCastxt , the more the thermal withstand of the cured mass is lowered and compromised. In this case, we recommend a final clear topcoat of UltraCast xt   is applied on top of the pigmented layer to bolster its resistance against hot objects placed on it.

Due its long open time, UltraCastxt is susceptible to Amine Blush and Polymer Bloom under the following usage conditions : high humidity, low ambient temperature (15°C or below), draughty or windy conditions including air-conditioning. To avoid this effect from occurring we recommend the resin component (Part A) is pre-warmed before mixing with the Hardener. We also request that the working area is kept as consistent as possible with regard to temperature and humidity while the resin is curing.

Pack Sizes

UltraCastxt comes in 4 pack sizes so you can buy exactly the right amount for your project. To help you choose the correct kit please see the coverage guide below, then make your selection from the drop down list above. The exact coverage will depend on how thick you want your resin coating and the type of media you are covering.

Specifications

Mix ratio   by weight & volume: 100 parts resin to 50 parts hardener
Surfaces   canvas, wood, MDF, glass, perspex, concrete & metal
Curing time   touch dry in 24 hours at 20°C, full cure & heat resistance in 14-21 days
  Coverage   1 litre of the mixed product will cover approx. 1.43m² @ 0.5mm thick (1kg = 1L)
  Pot Life   1.5 – 2 hours at 20°C (mixed mass 250g)
Shelf life   one year in sealed containers

Pot life is the amount of time a given mass of mixed resin/hardener will remain
in the liquid state at a specific temperature.

Mixing

The mixing ratio must be accurately followed to achieve perfect results. It is not possible to change the ratio which would result in the resin not drying properly and lower mechanical properties.

The mixed components should be thoroughly stirred for 3-4 minutes to ensure an even consistency. Epoxy systems tend to heat up in a pot than as a thin film, only mix the amount needed for use within the pot life of the product.

Application

The product can be applied by pouring from the mixing vessel or by brush or roller. The mixed resin can be tinted with our resi-TINT pigments, resi-METAL or resi-TINT+ Metallic Powders to make your artwork pop. resi-BLAST will add stunning cells and effects.

Health & Safety

Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, all epoxy resins are chemicals and should be managed and handled with proactive safety hygiene and responsible care.

  • Always wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream)
  • Wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin
  • It is advisable to work in a well ventilated room
  • We advise the use of safety goggles
  • Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin wash with plenty of soap & water)
  • DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working
  • In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately

Adding inks/paints/mica powder/glitter to epoxy resin will change its properties and may reduce its non-toxicity. If you use alcohol inks DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles, as alcohol is flammable.

Product information „ULTRACAST XT 1,5 kg“

Your resin for large areas: ULTRACAST XT

Are you looking for large surfaces or formats? Surfaces that need to be particularly heat-resistant? Then work with ULTRACAST XT. We have developed this resin system especially for such requirements. Find out why here.

The product ULTRACAST XT:

What it is.

ULTRACAST XT is an ASTM-certified two-component resin and is of very high quality. You can easily and safely apply ULTRACAST XT and create stunning, high-gloss works.

What it can do.

ULTRACAST XT becomes a hard and glass-like varnish when its two individual components are mixed. It also offers the best possible protection against yellowing. This is ensured by so-called UV stabilizers: our products contain a UV absorber and HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer):

That’s what it’s for
.

Think big! ULTRACAST XT is the right resin for you when it comes to large formats and surfaces. This includes, for example, large-format painting surfaces, tables, counters, kitchen countertops or floors.

ULTRACAST XT is ideal for finishing, in mixed media applications or for pouring. This resin system is also a good choice for surfaces that need to be heat resistant.

Special features.

To ensure that ULTRACAST XT is suitable for large surfaces, it has a particularly long processing time: up to 80 minutes are available for working and designing. It is also heat-resistant up to 100 °C.

Measuring, mixing and processing ULTRACAST XT

  • The resin and hardener of ULTRACAST XT are mixed 2:1 by volume. Place the two components in a suitable mixing cup.
  • Stir the measured quantity in the mixing cup. Use a plastic spatula for this purpose. Stir slowly and thoroughly, for 3-5 minutes; including the bottom and sides of the mixing cup.
  • Your mixture is ready and you now have 60-80 minutes to process the resin. After that, it will become too thick and begin to harden.
  • You have prepared your painting surface beforehand, which means: it has been dusted, degreased and lies flat on your work surface.
  • Now pour the resin mixture onto the painting surface. Resin is self-leveling and spreads by itself on a smooth, even surface. However, you are welcome to help it along with a spatula.
  • ULTRACAST XT is a high-quality product that forms only small bubbles, if any. If bubbles appear, simply remove them with the heat of a Bunsen burner or hot air dryer. To do this, go over the resin surface in sweeping motions at a distance of about 10 cm.
  • Protect your work from dust or other foreign matter by working in as dust-free an environment as possible. Cover it when it is finished.
  • It is best to clean the cured surface with a damp cloth.

You should pay attention to this:

Although our resins are formulated with the most advanced and safest epoxy chemicals available, you should handle all epoxies responsibly and proactively ensure your safety:

  1. Always wear nitrile gloves.
  2. Wear a dust mask and, even better, safety glasses when sanding cured resin.
  3. It is advisable to work in a well-ventilated area and wear a respirator.
  4. Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin, wash with plenty of soap and water).
  5. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working.
  6. If eyes are contaminated, wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.
  7. Adding inks/varnishes/mica powder/glitter to epoxy changes its properties and may reduce its non-toxicity. If using alcohol inks, DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles as alcohol is flammable.
