Getting started with air dry clay
Air dry clay is the easiest way to sculpt at home — it hardens on its own in the air, so you need no kiln, no oven and no special equipment. It is ideal for beginners, kids and anyone who wants to make bowls, ornaments, jewellery and decorative pieces.
How air dry clay works
Simply shape the clay and leave it to dry at room temperature. Thin pieces harden in a day; thicker pieces take 24–72 hours. Once fully dry it can be sanded, painted with acrylics and sealed with varnish for a durable finish.
Tips for best results
Keep unused clay wrapped so it does not dry out, smooth cracks with a little water, and build thick pieces around a core to prevent cracking. Seal finished pieces if they will be handled often — air dry clay is decorative and not fully waterproof.
