What are alcohol markers?

Alcohol markers use alcohol-based ink that dries quickly and blends smoothly. They're a favourite tool of manga artists, illustrators, and designers.

Basic techniques

• Flicking — short, quick strokes from dark to light
• Layering — start light and build up saturation
• Blending — use a colourless blender for smooth transitions

Best paper

Marker paper prevents bleeding and gives the best results. Bristol smooth is also good. Avoid regular drawing or printer paper.
