Posca Paint Markers — the Most Versatile Tools
Guides15 March 2025By Föndurlist

Uni Posca pens are perhaps the most versatile art tools available. They are water-based paint markers that work on paper, wood, glass, stone, metal, plastic, ceramic, leather and more. If you can hold a pen, you can use Posca.
What makes Posca special?
- Water-based acrylic paint — Odourless and non-toxic. Suitable for children and adults.
- Opaque colours — The colours cover well, even on dark surfaces.
- Versatility — Works on almost anything: paper, wood, glass, stone, ceramic, metal, fabric, and more.
- Durable — Once dry, the colours are water-resistant on most surfaces.
Size guide
Posca pens come in different tip sizes to suit different projects:
- PC-1MR (0,7 mm) — The thinnest tip. Perfect for details, outlines and lettering. Also in gold and silver.
- PC-3M (0,9-1,3 mm) — A fine tip that works well for general use, lettering and medium-sized projects.
- PC-5M (1,8-2,5 mm) — A medium tip, great for general painting and filling in areas.
- PC-8K (8 mm) — A wide, flat tip. Suitable for large surfaces, wall signs and graphics.
Our sets
If you want to get started, a set is the best choice:
- 4-colour set (PC-3M, Mono) — Neutral tones: black, white, grey and silver.
- 8-colour set (PC-3M) — A classic starter set in a fine tip size.
- 8-colour set (PC-5M) — The same colour range in a medium tip size — better if you paint larger surfaces.
Project ideas
- Rock painting — Collect smooth stones and paint pictures, words or patterns. A great family project.
- Christmas decorations — Paint glass baubles, wooden ornaments or porcelain hearts.
- Clothing — Paint on trainers, laptop bags or jackets (use heat-setting to fix the paint).
- Glass art — Paint on jars, wine glasses or mirrors (washable after baking in the oven).
- Wall décor — Paint directly onto walls, wooden boards or canvas.
Tips
- Shake the pen well with the cap on until you hear the ball rattle. Then press the tip down a few times to get the paint flowing.
- For a smoother finish, apply two thin coats rather than one thick one.
- On smooth surfaces, you can wipe it off and start again if you're not happy.
- Store the pens horizontally to distribute the paint evenly.
