Working with alcohol ink
Alcohol ink is prized for its intense, translucent colour and unpredictable, organic flow. It is perfect for abstract art, resin projects and decorating non-porous surfaces. A little goes a long way, so even a small set opens up endless possibilities.
Surfaces to use
Alcohol ink works best on non-porous surfaces such as yupo paper, ceramic tile, glass and metal. On porous paper the colour soaks in and loses its flow, so choose a slick surface for the classic marbled effect.
Moving the ink
Use blending solution or isopropyl alcohol to move and dilute the ink, and a can of air or a straw to push it into feathery patterns. Layering colours while wet creates depth and beautiful blends.
Sealing and finishing
Alcohol ink can fade in strong light, so seal finished pieces with a UV-resistant varnish. Many artists pour resin over their work for a glossy, durable finish — we stock resin and supplies for exactly that.
